WHY YOU WANT THIS JOB

The CN Positive Train Control (PTC) Program is mandatory and implements a security system so that CN is compliant with the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 signed on October 16, 2008. CN IT/OT is now in charge of the delivery side of the program which involves the IT/OT, Mechanical and the Signaling & Communications (S&C) groups at CN. Team is spread between Montreal and in the US.

The PTC system is designed to prevent train-to-train collisions, overspeed derailments, incursions into work zones, and movement through an improperly aligned switch through train authority and track restriction enforcement.

New and existing products associated to PTC and Operational Technology will be required to operate a safe railway. Product Managers will be required to manage the evolution of those products through strong collaboration with the business partners, process owners, implementation and supporting teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the functionalities of the current product
  • Understand the evolution of the product
  • Align the product features and releases with stakeholder demands
  • Understand the user’s behavior in using the product
  • Influence the vendor to speed up certain functionality
  • Drive the product vision and roadmap with business partners
  • Maximize the value of the product by promoting the benefits to other internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in the product roadmap definition
  • Liaison with the support and Delivery teams involved in the product
  • Involved in all aspects of the product lifecycle
  • Involved in prioritizing product defects
  • Align product backlogs with corporate objectives
  • Proactive in identifying technology upgrades for continued support
  • Work closely with business partners and key OT (Operational Technology) and IT groups
  • Contributor to business case for product evolution
  • Active participation in governance
  • Accountable for business analyst within the project
  • Accountable for business processes and requirements alignment to corporate objectives and product releases
  • Coach and guide team members
  • Manage staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and succession planning

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (System Information, Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
  • 7+ years experience in a Product Management role
  • Established product management skills, including proven ability to execute product activities and manage backlog
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate workshops, interviews, and meetings, mindful of the impact of organizational change
  • Strong project planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, synthesize, document, translate and communicate business information to technical teams and vice versa
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to influence cross functional teams
  • Work well under pressure and can manage conflicts on a daily basis
  • Experienced in working in a structured and unstructured environment
  • Experienced in process improvements
  • Demonstrated flexibility
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proven relationship building and teamwork skills
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Ability to travel in Canada and in the United States
